Barbara Myers

Barbara Myers grew up on a small farm in Central Southern Illinois. She attended elementary school in Oblong, Illinois. While in the 8th grade her art teacher,Geneva Douglas, asked her to represent Oblong in the yearly Art Contest for Figure Drawing. She received 2-1st place and a 3rd place at State in that contest. That was the first time she realized that art was a possibility in her life. She has taken several workshops and classes over the years in drawing, oil, acrylics and watercolor.

Myers said,” I enjoy all of these past mediums along with jewelry making and crafting. I rarely see anything different that I wouldn’t like to learn about and try.”She still works in many mediums, but favorites the watercolor and jewelry making. She likes individual characteristics of each medium. Myers’ work is a realistic style.“I was president of the Palestine Art Guild for about 15 years; we had Children’s Summer Art Workshops for most of those years. They were attended by students from every school in CrawfordCounty and some surrounding counties. “

“I am now retired from a 43 year career in the medical field and am a Registered Professional Nurse. I have a studio in Palestine, IL. where we gather for painting together and art classe; I also carry art supplies. It is located at 205 E Grand Prairie St.”
