Emelie Oppman

I enjoy using nontraditional fine art materials such as jello, sugar, hair gel, and faux fur to give the bodies I imagine a physical form. I have made work analyzing the stomach lining of gummy worms, the chromosomes of Sesame Street characters, and the benign tumors an alien would have. I enjoy pairing abstract forms with glimmers of recognizable imagery and materials to concoct a distinctive visual lexicon that creates an object that is simultaneously familiar and abjectly alien. I hope to continue using my sculptural practice to shed light on the outcasts of popular biology.
